Road traffic accident in the Mykolaiv region
In the Mykolaiv region, a car in which a man with special protection status was being taken to a court hearing was involved in a road traffic accident. He and a police officer from the Kherson region were killed; other law enforcement officers were also injured.

This was reported by the Kherson Regional Police.

The accident occurred at around 5 am in Olgopol, Voznesensk District. It has been provisionally established that a Renault Duster collided with a lorry that was stationary on the carriageway.

Two people were killed in the accident: a 44-year-old police officer from Kherson and a 49-year-old man on bail, whom the police were transporting to a court hearing in accordance with a court order.

The police officer who died was Police Major Maksym Kharchenko. He was the acting deputy head of the criminal police sector at Police Station No. 1 of the Kherson District Police Department. He is survived by his parents, wife and two daughters. The police reported that Maksym Kharchenko began his service in 2007 in Kryvyi Rih. In 2024, he transferred to the Kherson Regional Police.

His colleagues, aged 48 and 20, were also injured in the road traffic accident.

Law enforcement officers from the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions are currently working at the scene of the accident. The circumstances of the accident will be investigated by officers from the State Bureau of Investigations. An internal investigation into the incident has also been ordered.
