Latvia's assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the war is close to EUR 1 billion
The practical assistance provided by Latvia to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war is almost EUR 1 billion. This is stated in the annual report of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Baiba Braže on the results of work and foreign policy priorities for 2026, Delfi.lv reports.
The document notes that Riga continues to pursue a course of comprehensive support for Ukraine and calls on European states to increase their contribution to at least 0.25 per cent of GDP. Latvia has consistently defended Ukraine's right to self-defence on international platforms, advocated increased political, military, economic and diplomatic pressure on Russia, and maintains an active bilateral dialogue with Kyiv.
According to the agreement on long-term support and security commitments signed in April 2024, Latvia provides Ukraine with military assistance in the amount of 0.25 per cent of GDP and EUR 15 million for reconstruction in 2024-2026. In 2025, the support includes procurement from the Latvian defence industry, Riga's leadership in the drone coalition, participation in NATO programmes and training of the Ukrainian military.
Latvia also took an active part in negotiations within the European Union on financial support for Ukraine in 2026 and 2027, in particular, lobbied for the use of frozen assets of the Central Bank of Russia to stabilise the Ukrainian economy and rebuild the country.
