Anthony Joshua discharged from hospital after fatal car accident in Nigeria
British boxer Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital in Lagos after a road accident in Nigeria that killed two of his close friends. This was announced by the authorities of Lagos and Ogun states in a joint statement, DW writes.
According to official information, the athlete was under the supervision of doctors at Lagoon Hospital and suffered minor injuries. The doctors declared his condition stable and allowed him to continue his recovery at home. The statement said that the boxer is having a hard time dealing with the death of his friends
The accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan highway. The car Joshua was in crashed into a parked lorry. As a result of the collision, coach Latif Ayodele and physical training specialist Sina Gami were killed. The driver has also been discharged from hospital and is being questioned by law enforcement
Preliminary data from the Ogun State Road Traffic Control and Safety Authority indicate that the car was travelling at excessive speed and had a tyre blowout just before the collision. The investigation is ongoing and the driver may be prosecuted for dangerous driving
After being discharged from the hospital, Joshua and his mother visited a funeral home where the bodies of the victims were being prepared for repatriation. The boxer was in Nigeria, his parents' homeland, after a high-profile victory over Jake Paul in a fight that was broadcast on Netflix
