Ancelotti criticised Brazil's performance after their first match of the 2026 World Cup

The Brazilian national team kicked off their 2026 World Cup campaign with a match against Morocco. The group stage fixture ended in a 1-1 draw. For Carlo Ancelotti, this was his first World Cup match in charge of the Brazilian national team. Morocco opened the scoring in the first half with a goal from Ismael Saibari, but Brazil managed to equalise thanks to a precise strike from Vinícius Júnior.
What Ancelotti said after the match
After the game, the Italian manager admitted he was not entirely satisfied with the team’s performance. According to Ancelotti, Brazil had a poor start to the match, frequently lost possession and struggled to break out of the opposition’s press.
“We didn’t start very well, and that worries me a bit. We lost a lot of challenges and gave the ball away frequently. Am I satisfied? Not entirely. I was expecting a better start,” said the manager.
At the same time, he noted that in the second half the team stepped up and controlled the game better.
Vinícius matched Ronaldinho’s record
The goal against Morocco was Vinícius Júnior’s second in his World Cup career. With this tally, the Real Madrid player has drawn level with Brazilian national team legend Ronaldinho. Brazil’s next match at the 2026 World Cup will be on 20 June against Haiti.
