Drone attack on Russia: the Azot plant catches fire in the Tula region
This has been reported by "Ukrainska Pravda", citing ASTRA, Exilenova+ and Dmitry Milyaev, the governor of the Tula Region.
According to monitoring channels, explosions were heard overnight in the area of Novomoskovsk. A fire broke out on the grounds of the Azot plant following the attack. Dmitry Milyaev, Governor of the Tula Region, stated that debris from drones had fallen on the grounds of one of the region’s industrial enterprises. He did not specify the name of the facility.
Why the Azot plant is important
The Azot chemical plant in Novomoskovsk is one of the largest enterprises in Russia’s chemical industry. The plant’s main products are ammonia, nitric acid, methanol, mineral fertilisers and other chemical products. In addition to civilian applications, some of the products from such plants can be used in the military sector. In particular, chemical components are used in the production of explosives and ammunition.
Drones also attacked other regions of Russia
On the night of 14 June, residents of the Smolensk region also reported explosions. According to preliminary data, railway infrastructure in the city of Vyazma may have been targeted. The railway remains one of the main means of transporting military cargo across Russian territory. In addition, reports of the aftermath of the attack came from the city of Orel. There, a fire broke out in a high-rise building following the explosions. Russian regions have recently been regularly reporting drone attacks on industrial, energy and logistics facilities.
