Almost half of Americans do not support Trump's approach to Russia's war against Ukraine
Almost half of US citizens do not support President Donald Trump's actions in the war between Russia and Ukraine. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by The Economist in cooperation with YouGov, The Hill reports.
According to the study, 49 per cent of respondents said they partially or completely disapprove of Trump's handling of the Russia-Ukraine issue. At the same time, 30 per cent of respondents said they partially or fully support his approach, while another 20 per cent were undecided
The survey was conducted from 26 to 29 December among 1,550 American adults. The statistical error is 3.6 percentage points
In the first year of the second presidential term, the Trump administration tried to promote the idea of ending the war through diplomatic means. In particular, Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Mar-a-Lago residence. Following the talks, the parties announced progress on a 20-point peace proposal supported by the Ukrainian side
At the same time, the survey showed pessimism among Americans about the balance of power in the war. Only 6 per cent believe that the advantage is now on the side of Ukraine, 27 per cent are convinced that Russia has the initiative, and 44 per cent believe that neither side has a clear advantage
