Netanyahu plans to inform Trump of possible new strikes on Iran
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to present arguments for possible new strikes on Iranian military targets during his planned meeting with US President Donald Trump. It is reported by NBCnews with reference to informed sources.
According to Israeli officials, Iran is actively restoring and expanding its ballistic missile programme, which suffered serious losses after Israeli and US strikes in early 2025. There are also concerns about Tehran's attempts to restore uranium enrichment facilities, but it is the missile programme that Israel considers the most urgent.
The meeting between Trump and Netanyahu is expected to take place in late December in Florida. According to the sources, the Israeli side will insist that the build-up of the missile arsenal poses a threat not only to Israel, but also to the United States and the entire region. Netanyahu may propose several scenarios, including strikes by Israeli forces, joint operations, or limited US support.
According to intelligence estimates, without external intervention, Iran is capable of producing up to 3,000 ballistic missiles a year. It is the massiveness of these weapons that is seen as a key threat, as they can cover Iranian nuclear and military facilities.
President Trump has previously said that US strikes against Iran's nuclear programme have involved more than 100 aircraft and strategic bombers, and he called the damage caused devastating. At the same time, he did not rule out new actions if Iran attempts to quickly resume its banned programmes.
