Germany hands over two more Patriot systems and the ninth IRIS T system to Ukraine
Germany has delivered two Patriot air defence systems to Ukraine, promised back in August, as well as the ninth IRIS T system, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said during the 32nd meeting of the Contact Group on Defence of Ukraine.
According to him, the delivery of Patriot became possible thanks to coordination with Norwegian partners. The new systems have significantly strengthened Ukraine's air defence ahead of the winter period.
Pistorius also announced that in 2026 Germany will transfer a significant number of AIM 9 Sidewinder missiles from its stockpile to Ukraine. In addition, Berlin has funded defence packages under the NATO PURL mechanism for $700 million, of which $500 million is the full package and another $200 million is for additional purchases of weapons and ammunition from US warehouses.
The Minister also stressed the deepening of cooperation between the defence industries of Ukraine and Germany. In particular, it concerns the joint production of drones under the implementation agreement signed between the two countries.
According to Pistorius, in 2026, the total amount of German aid to Ukraine will reach 11.5 billion euros, which will be a record figure and confirm Berlin's long-term support for Kyiv.
