On the night of Sunday 29 June, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile strike on Kyiv. Air defence forces engaged the enemy targets, but debris was reported to have fallen in the Darnytskyi district, where several fires were also reported. As of now, two people are known to have been injured.

This was reported by Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration.

What is known about the consequences of the attack

According to Tkachenko, fires broke out at several locations in the Darnytskyi district following air defence operations.

In particular, fires broke out near a residential building, on the premises of a service station, and in a non-residential building.

Initial reports indicated one casualty, but the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration later clarified that the number of injured had risen to two.

Details of the attack’s aftermath are still being clarified. According to Tkachenko, it cannot be ruled out that reports of falling debris may also come from other districts of the capital.

Kyiv residents have been urged not to post footage of the air defence system in action

During the air raid alert, the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration urged residents to remain in shelters until the official all-clear was given.

He also reminded people that publishing photos or videos of air defence operations, impact sites or falling debris could harm the city’s defences and could result in criminal liability.
