The Tesla Cybercab, with no steering wheel or pedals, is set to launch
This is reported by UAMOTORS
Final testing phase
Unlike earlier prototypes, which had temporary controls for safety reasons, these vehicles now fully embody the concept of autonomous service. The Cybercab is designed exclusively to operate with the Full Self-Driving (FSD) system, where the passenger does not intervene in the driving process.
Concept and design
Tesla has implemented a design that is as simple as possible to maximise efficiency:
-
Interior: designed for two passengers, without the usual instrument panel.
-
Aerodynamics: no side mirrors; cameras are used instead.
-
Goal: to create a low-cost, mass-market transport service.
Regulatory barriers
Although production began in late 2025, the project’s scaling depends on US legislation. Currently, there is a limit of no more than 2,500 self-driving cars per year without steering wheels, unless special NHTSA permits are obtained. It is expected that the batch in question will form the basis for a pilot robotaxi service in Austin in the near future.
