The situation is changing: the head of Zaporizhzhia has urged Ukrainians to evacuate from the occupied territory
He said this in a video message shared on social media.
“For far too long, the enemy has regarded Melitopol, Berdiansk, Energodar and Henichesk as its secure rear. For too long, it has used the occupied parts of the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions as a logistics hub to supply its troops. For too long, it has tried to convince people that the occupation is permanent. Today, the situation is changing: the Ukrainian Defence Forces are systematically striking the occupiers’ military infrastructure, their command posts, ammunition depots, logistics centres and supply routes,” said Fedorov.
He emphasised that the Russian army “is effectively using civilians as a shield”: “The more the occupiers use the temporarily occupied territories for military purposes, the greater the risks for civilians. That is precisely why I urge everyone who has the opportunity not to delay their decision to leave.”
How to leave?
At present, there is no direct route out to territory controlled by the Ukrainian government.
However, the possibility of evacuation does exist, Fedorov noted. The Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration has urged people to contact the following numbers:
