What is known about the explosions in Crimea
According to local TV channels, explosions and the activity of Russian air defences were heard overnight in several areas of the occupied peninsula.
In particular, reports of loud noises came from Simferopol. Locals also reported explosions in the area of the Simferopol Hydroelectric Power Station.
Furthermore, residents of Kerch, Bakhchysarai and Sevastopol reported the occupiers’ air defence systems in action. Loud noises were also heard in the Nizhnegorsk, Krasnogvardeisky and Krasnoperekopsky districts.
The occupiers claimed there had been a drone attack
Prior to the explosions in occupied Crimea, there were reports of a threat of drone attacks. Russian media outlets reported on the activation of air defence systems. There is currently no official information regarding the possible consequences of the attack or damage to facilities. At the same time, local residents continued to report explosions in various parts of the peninsula.
Attacks on Russian facilities in Crimea
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the temporarily occupied Crimea has regularly come under drone attack. Ukrainian defence forces have repeatedly struck military targets belonging to the Russian occupiers on the peninsula, including air defence systems, ammunition depots, command posts and infrastructure used by Russia to support its troops. The Ukrainian side emphasises that such operations are aimed at reducing Russia’s military capabilities.
