In Ukraine, some disabled people may lose benefits: who does this concern
In Ukraine, some citizens may lose their disability status and benefits. This concerns those categories of citizens who have not undergone a medical examination since 2022. This information is reported by UNN with a link to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
From April 1 of this year, Ukraine has launched a new system for assessing daily functioning. Its goal is to verify the relevance of the established disability and to decide whether the citizen needs further payments and support from the state.
Who needs to undergo an examination
Primarily, this concerns men aged 25 to 60 who have second or third disability groups and have not undergone a re-examination in 2022–2024. They must undergo a re-examination by November 1, 2025, otherwise they will not receive benefits.
Other people with disabilities must undergo a re-examination by April 1, 2026. At the same time, this does not apply to:
- people whose disability was established later — already in 2025 — and whose review period has not yet come;
- people with indefinite disability status;
- military personnel, civil protection personnel — for whom separate approaches apply;
- people residing in areas where hostilities are ongoing or temporarily occupied territories;
- patients with severe organ function impairments (missing limbs or some paired organs, deaf or blind, having oncological or psychiatric illnesses).
What needs to be done
First, you need to obtain an electronic referral from a family doctor, therapist, or specialized specialist. Then, the person can independently choose a hospital from the available list. All decisions are recorded in the electronic system.
