This is reported by ThePublic.info, citing an interview with Deputy Minister of Education Mykola Trofymenko for RBC-Ukraine.

There are currently 20,500 foreign students studying in Ukraine, says Trofymenko.

"This is an important area of work for the Ukrainian education system. The discussion here can be from the perspective of the possibility of educating such students during the security situation in Ukraine. But there are positions of national governments, and our understanding that the desire of such students to study may exist," – notes the Deputy Minister of Education.

He adds: the ministry understands that these students contribute to the Ukrainian economy by studying in our country.

"These are students who invest, among other things, in Ukrainian universities and help them withstand, survive, and fill special funds. Therefore, this is one of our priority areas of work. We will do everything to increase the number of foreigners and prepare for the reception of large volumes of foreigners before the war after it ends," – the interlocutor adds.

The most popular specialties:

  • medicine;
  • management;
  • shipbuilding;
  • law;
  • economics;
  • pharmacy, including industrial pharmacy.

According to the Ministry of Education and Science, the largest number of students come from these countries:

  1. China (6846);
  2. Azerbaijan (5017);
  3. Georgia (1081);
  4. India (930);
  5. Morocco (723);
  6. Turkey (636).

According to the Deputy Minister, their numbers decreased after the Russian invasion in 2022.

"Before the full-scale war, about 80 thousand foreign students studied with us. Twenty-five thousand under current conditions is also a figure," – Trofymenko says.
