Wilder says he does not consider Usyk the greatest boxer in history
Former world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder said that he does not share the opinion that Oleksandr Usyk is the greatest boxer in history. The American said this in a commentary to Cigar Talk.
According to Wilder, he attributes such assessments primarily to the support of Usyk's fans, particularly in Ukraine. In his opinion, a significant number of fans do not fully understand the technical and organisational aspects of professional boxing, which determine the real level and status of an athlete.
Wilder emphasised that not only victories are important for a fighter to be recognised as the best in history, but also a deep understanding of the structure of the boxing business, the selection of fights and competition at the highest level.
We will remind, Usyk holds the WBC, WBA and IBF championship belts and has an impeccable record of 24 wins in 24 fights, 15 of them by knockout. Wilder, in turn, has 44 wins, 4 defeats and 1 draw, 43 fights were completed by knockout. In late July, the American won an early seventh-round victory over Tyrell Herndon.
It was also reported earlier that Usyk asked the WBC to allow a voluntary title defence and considers Wilder as a potential opponent.
