Wizz Air will be the first European low-cost airline to launch Starlink
This is according to Reuters.
Starlink will be available on Wizz Air flights from next year, although the airline has not disclosed the terms of the agreement.
Wizz Air’s announcement comes amid reports that SpaceX, Starlink’s parent company, intends to go public this week.
Previously, competitors in the budget travel sector, such as Ryanair and EasyJet, noted that providing in-flight Wi-Fi via Starlink poses significant financial challenges.
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary has estimated that using Starlink would cost Ryanair up to $250 million a year, including additional fuel costs, the agency reports.
Meanwhile, Starlink, the largest satellite operator, has signed agreements with several US airlines, including American Airlines, Southwest, United and Alaska. It is also collaborating with airlines operating long-haul flights, such as Singapore Airlines and Emirates.
