Drone attacks were reported in the Moscow Region and the Russian capital on the morning of 16 June. This was followed by reports of a fire at the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district.

On the morning of 16 June, monitoring Telegram channels reported a drone attack in Moscow and the Moscow Region.

Photos and videos show a fire at the Moscow oil refinery, located in the Kapotnya district. The footage shows thick black smoke rising above the refinery’s grounds.

According to available information, the oil refinery was struck by drones. However, at the time of publication, there was no official information regarding the extent of the damage to the facility.

Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Centre for Countering Disinformation, confirmed the reports of a fire at the Moscow Oil Refinery. According to him, the plant processes around 11 million tonnes of oil per year and supplies around 40% of Moscow’s demand for petrol and diesel fuel.

The ELOU AVT-6 – a primary oil refining unit on which the plant’s operational capacity depends – is also on fire at the Moscow refinery. The question now is whether the Moscow refinery will have to suspend operations or face a critical loss of capacity.

At the time of publication, no official reports on the consequences of the fire or its potential impact on the plant’s operations had been released.
