The USA thrashed Paraguay in their opening match
This was reported by UA-Football.
The match took place on 13 June at SoFi Stadium in California. The hosts quickly took the initiative and opened the scoring early in the match. In the 7th minute, following a US attack involving Christian Pulisic and Weston McKennie, the ball was deflected into his own net by Paraguayan midfielder Damian Bobadilla.
The USA had sealed the match’s fate before half-time
In the 28th minute, Folarin Balogun scored the Americans’ second goal, but it was ruled out for offside. However, it took the striker just a few minutes to find the net again — this time the goal stood. Towards the end of the first half, Balogun completed his brace. Following a pass from Malik Tillman, the forward beat a defender and fired the ball into the top corner. The teams went into the break with the score at 3-0. After the break, the managers made substitutions, and Paraguay tried to get back into the game. In the 73rd minute, Mauricio capitalised on a mistake by the US defence to pull one back. However, the Americans had the last word. In the 90+8th minute, Giovanni Reyna scored the fourth goal to make the final score 4–1.
