Pope Leo XIV called on world leaders to lay down their arms
This is stated in Pope Leo XIV’s Easter message, published by Vatican News and on the Holy See’s official website.
After Holy Mass in St Peter’s Square in the Vatican, the pontiff addressed Rome and the world from the central loggia of St Peter’s Basilica. In his address, he called for allowing Christ to “change hearts” and emphasised that peace must arise not from a desire to dominate others, but from encounter and dialogue.
The Pope also addressed the faithful, calling on them to reject “any desire for conflict, domination and power” and to ask the Lord for peace for a world exhausted by wars, hatred and indifference. He said that true peace can only be given by God, and called on everyone to entrust to Him all hearts that are suffering and longing for peace.
Separately, Pope Leo XIV invited the faithful to join a prayer vigil for peace, to be held in St Peter’s Basilica next Saturday, 11 April. This was also reported by Vatican News in a piece on the pontiff’s Easter address.
As a reminder, another consignment of humanitarian aid from Pope Leo XIV has been delivered to Ukraine, comprising 80 electric generators, medicines and food supplies. The shipment was sent via the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, known as the Apostolic Charities, in accordance with the Holy Father’s instructions.
