Péter Magyar announced an agreement between Ukraine and Hungary regarding Transcarpathia
He wrote about this on the social media platform X.
According to Madyar, the Ukrainian side has submitted an official diplomatic note confirming its readiness to implement the provisions of the agreements. These relate to issues of education, culture, language use and the political rights of the Hungarian community. The politician also noted that these provisions have been included in the EU Action Plan on the Protection of the Rights of National Minorities.
Mátyás criticised the Orbán government
Commenting on the agreements, Mádár stated that this issue had been resolved in a matter of weeks, whereas Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s government, he said, had been unable to resolve it over the course of ten years.
“In just a few weeks, we managed to resolve a problem that Orbán’s government had been unable to resolve for ten years,” he wrote.
The issue of the rights of the Hungarian minority in Zakarpattia has long been a source of tension between Ukraine and Hungary. Budapest has repeatedly raised objections to Ukrainian legislation regarding education and the use of national minority languages, and has linked this issue to Ukraine’s European integration.
