Russia has started importing petrol from India amid a fuel shortage caused by Ukrainian strikes on the energy sector.

Reuters reports this, citing sources.

One industry source reported that at least 60,000 tonnes of petrol had already been shipped from India to Russia.

Another source noted that two tankers had been dispatched, each carrying 30,000–40,000 tonnes.

It is not known which Indian refiner will be supplying the petrol to Russia.

A third source stated that, in total, Russia plans to import 400,000 tonnes of petrol per month from various countries, including neighbouring Belarus, which is already supplying fuel to Russia. According to Reuters’ calculations and data from sources, Belarus has almost tripled its rail shipments of petrol to Russia — to over 70,000 tonnes in the first half of June, compared with the first half of May.

During the summer, petrol consumption in Russia stands at at least 110,000 tonnes per day due to high demand for fuel.
