The US Senate is preparing to pass a defence budget that includes funding for Ukraine
Next week, the US Senate will pass a defence spending bill that will include funding for direct aid to Ukraine. This was announced on 22 January by leading Democratic Senator Chris Coons during a Ukrainian breakfast held as part of the annual World Economic Forum meeting, according to Ukrinform.
According to the senator, the US Congress is expected to finalise work on a key defence and intelligence funding package. The document provides for direct aid to Ukraine from the United States. Coons stressed that this involves hundreds of millions of dollars, which will send an important public signal of support amid the ongoing war.
He also noted that the US legislature must be prepared not only to provide funding, but also to ratify strong and long-term security guarantees for Ukraine. In his opinion, this is critical for stability in Europe and deterring further aggression.
The statement came amid active discussions in Davos on security, defence spending and the role of the US in supporting its allies. Washington expects the adoption of the defence budget to be one of the key decisions in early 2026.
