The zoo in Kyiv was affected by a massive Russian attack on the night of 2 July — buildings at the zoo were damaged and some animals were injured. The damage is still being repaired, but the zoo is operating as normal.

This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.

According to the zoo, the shockwave affected the tortoises and crocodiles, which were struck by shards of glass and pieces of the frames.

“Fortunately, no animals were killed. Staff, who are on duty round the clock looking after the animals, immediately provided them with the necessary assistance. All the animals are currently safe,” KyivZoo confirmed.

The zoo’s primate and bird enclosures, the winter garden dome, the aquaterrarium, the hay store and the northern entrance complex were also damaged, and the winter garden’s exotic plants were affected.

Work is currently underway at the zoo to clear up the aftermath of the attack. The northern entrance complex, including the car park, is temporarily closed.
