Zelenskyy has announced new proposals from the US regarding security guarantees
Volodymyr Zelenskyy made this statement in an evening address, the text of which has been published on the President’s website.
Ukraine is preparing its own proposals for a new phase of discussions with the US regarding the strengthening of the security guarantees document. According to the president, it is this document that should pave the way for lasting peace and a political and legal situation in which the war can be brought to an end.
Zelenskyy emphasised that for a productive negotiation process, it is important for partners to take Ukraine’s position into account. He also acknowledged that there is currently a great deal of despair surrounding diplomacy regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine; however, the outcome, he said, depends on all participants in this process. The President added that contacts with the American side at various levels are taking place virtually every day.
What Zelenskyy said about pressure on Russia
Separately, the President spoke of the effectiveness of Ukraine’s far-reaching sanctions against Russia. According to him, they are genuinely reducing Russian revenues, primarily from oil, and thus limiting Moscow’s ability to drag out the war.
Zelenskyy emphasised that only significant financial losses can force Russia to consider a scenario for withdrawing from the war. At the same time, he noted that the oil and global markets are currently in a state of crisis due to the unresolved situation surrounding Iran, and that oil-producing countries, including Russia, can earn more under such conditions. The President added that Ukrainian drones and missiles are limiting Russia’s capabilities.
The report also states that after Easter, Ukraine is expecting a visit from senior US officials for further negotiations. It should be
recalled that the US is offering security guarantees as part of a peace agreement, provided that Ukraine relinquishes the entire Donbas region.
