Zelensky in an interview with Czech Radio: Czech support helps Ukraine defend all of Europe
In an interview with Czech Radio, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Czech Republic's support since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion has been crucial not only for Ukraine but for the whole of Europe. According to him, from the very first days of the war, Czech society provided Ukrainians with shelter and assistance at a time when it was critically needed.
The head of state noted that the recent presentation of the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise to Czech President Petr Pavel was a sign of gratitude not only to the head of state, but to the entire Czech people. Zelenskyy emphasised that the Czech leadership consistently defends Ukraine's interests on international platforms and clearly explains who Ukraine is and what threat Russia poses.
The president separately noted the Czech Republic's humanitarian initiatives, in particular the large-scale public fundraising for generators for Ukrainian cities after rocket and drone strikes on energy infrastructure. He also called the Czech initiative to coordinate international supplies of artillery ammunition, which brought together manufacturers from different countries, extremely important.
Commenting on criticism from some Czech political forces regarding military aid to Ukraine, Zelensky stressed that ending support would not bring peace closer. According to him, Ukraine is currently holding back Russia, and if it is defeated, there is a real risk of further aggression against other European countries. He warned that the price of a mistake in such a scenario would be extremely high for the whole of Europe.
The president confirmed Ukraine's interest in Czech L-159 aircraft as part of its air defence system to combat Shahed-type drones. At the same time, he noted that air defence is a complex system that includes mobile fire groups, electronic warfare, interceptors and aviation, and that the Czech Republic could play an important role in this cooperation.
Zelensky also stated Ukraine's openness to deepening economic cooperation with Czech businesses, particularly in the energy sector. He emphasised that energy security is a key component of national security, and that the restoration of the energy system is a necessary condition for the return of investors and long-term stability.
Speaking about possible peace talks, the President stressed that Ukraine is ready for dialogue with the participation of the US and Russia, but Europe must be present at key stages. According to him, territorial issues can only be resolved at the level of leaders, not technical delegations. He added that security guarantees and Ukraine's movement towards EU membership remain part of a broader 20-point framework for ending the war.
