Zelensky in Canada: Ottawa allocates additional $2.5bn in aid to Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the Canadian city of Halifax on Saturday on his way to the United States. During the visit, he met with Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney.
During the talks, Carney announced additional economic assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $2.5 billion. According to him, this support should become a financial signal to attract funds from international institutions, including the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, to launch the recovery process.
The Prime Minister of Canada stressed that under Zelenskyy's leadership, conditions for a just and lasting peace have been created, but its achievement depends on Russia's readiness. He also drew attention to Russia's nighttime attack on Kyiv, calling it a confirmation of the need for further support for Ukraine from its partners.
In addition to economic assistance, Canada reaffirmed its intention to continue military support for Ukraine. After his meeting with Carney, Zelenskyy is also planning a phone call with the leaders of the Berlin format.
