After searches by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine at the Volyn Customs Office, the individuals involved in the case left their jobs.
Following searches conducted by detectives from Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau at Volyn Customs, two individuals involved in the case are no longer employed by the agency. This was announced by Customs Chief Dmytro Stasenko during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada's Temporary Investigation Commission.
The commission meeting was chaired by People's Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak. According to Dmytro Stasenko, all those involved in the proceedings no longer hold positions at the customs office. He specified that one of them had resigned and the other was on maternity leave.
The head of customs also stated that he had no information about the involvement of his subordinates in the administration of the so-called black cash register, which NABU detectives seized at the customs post.
During the meeting, MP Danylo Getmantsev stated that this was not an isolated case, but rather a system of illegal business that law enforcement agencies had long overlooked.
"This market is no exception when it comes to smuggling. But the peculiarity is that the cars have VIN codes. Every car can be tracked. And the fact that such an illegal market exists speaks to the systematic work of corrupt officials at customs. Law enforcement agencies also turn a blind eye to this and do nothing to bring those involved to justice. I think they even get a percentage. So, in order to overcome all this, we have to bring this issue to the Temporary Investigation Commission," said Danylo Getmantsev.
At the end of February, detectives from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine conducted searches at the Lutsk Volyn customs post. Investigative actions also took place at other properties used by officials of this unit.
During one of the searches, law enforcement officers found and seized more than $850,000 in cash. The pre-trial investigation into the case is ongoing.
