The US is allocating $25 million to help Ukrainian children return home
This has been reported by the Office of the President of Ukraine.
The launch of the new programme was announced by Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska following a meeting with Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Foreign Aid, Humanitarian Affairs and Religious Freedom Jeremy Lewin and Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labour Riley Barnes.
The US Department of State has announced the launch of a $25 million support programme.
It is noted that this will be the first comprehensive programme covering all stages of the rescue of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia – from search and rescue to repatriation and reintegration.
Olena Zelenska thanked Jeremy Lewin and Riley Barnes for their support and cooperation.
The First Lady also noted that, as part of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s ‘Bring Kids Back UA’ initiative, 2,048 children abducted by Russia have already been returned to Ukraine.
At the same time, she said, thousands of children remain in Russian captivity, separated from their loved ones, cut off from communication, deprived of accurate information, and living in an atmosphere of intimidation and deception.
Olena Zelenska emphasised that only the cooperation of all those who care, as well as the efforts of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, can hasten rescue and justice.
As a reminder, Ukraine has received requests from the US and a number of Middle Eastern countries regarding cooperation in the field of air defence. At the same time, Kyiv is discussing the possibility of obtaining additional resources to strengthen its own defences.
