US lifts restrictions on flights over the Caribbean
The United States has lifted restrictions on flights over the Caribbean, which were in place in connection with the military operation in Venezuela. This was announced by the US Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, writes DW.
According to him, the initial airspace restrictions came into force at noon US Eastern Time. Airlines have already been informed and should update their flight schedules in the near future.
Earlier, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration temporarily banned U.S. commercial aircraft from flying over Venezuela at any altitude due to security risks associated with active hostilities. The ban was in effect for 23 hours and was introduced on the night of 3 January.
The decision to impose the restrictions came amid US strikes on Caracas and the detention of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, who was later taken to New York to face criminal charges.
