It has finally warmed up in Ukraine, so we can finally put night-time frosts behind us. The media are reporting that the summer of 2026 could see unprecedented temperature anomalies. However, meteorologists are urging people not to panic.

The European Commission has launched a call for applications for those wishing to become founding members of the new EU–Ukraine Drone Alliance. The selection process will run until 25 May, and the successful candidates will form the Alliance’s first board of directors.

Serhiy Nahorniak, a Member of Parliament for the “Servant of the People” party, has stated that Ukraine may review the number of men exempted from military service at enterprises, as Ukrainian Armed Forces units are understaffed. He also proposed that disability certificates be “reset to zero”, with the exception of documents held by those who have fought since 2014, been wounded and been granted disability status.

Most recipients had the one-off targeted payment of 1,500 UAH credited to their accounts by 25 April 2026. However, some Ukrainians will receive this payment in May – specifically those whose pension or social assistance was granted immediately before 1 April.

Police have arrested a 31-year-old man from Kyiv who ‘joked’ in one of the capital’s shopping centres that he had explosives in his rucksack. He now faces up to six years in prison.

A resident of Lviv contacted the city’s hotline to request that a tree be pruned. He was sent a photograph of the work already carried out, but it turned out to have been generated by artificial intelligence.

Between October 2024 and April 2026, Ukrainian content creators on OnlyFans submitted around 900 tax returns and declared income of 396.1 million hryvnias. Of this amount, 77.3 million hryvnias in taxes, including the military levy, were calculated, and 75.7 million hryvnias has already been paid into the budget.

Yuriy Gudymenko, chair of the NGO “Ukrainian Association Mriya” and head of the Public Anti-Corruption Council at the Ministry of Defence, stated that in order to demobilise the Ukrainian Defence Forces, it is necessary either to automate the army more actively or to recruit more personnel.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence is preparing systematic changes to the work of the Medical Examination Commission, data sharing and the notification of conscripts. The ministry has stated that the new approach is intended to improve the quality of the mobilisation pool and reduce errors in determining fitness for service.

On 9 May, according to the new church calendar, Ukraine commemorates the transfer of the relics of Saint Nicholas, the martyr Christopher, the Venerable Shio of Mghvi, and the Venerable Joseph of Optina. In popular tradition, this day is known as Spring, Summer, or Warm Nicholas.
