Rinat Akhmetov tops the ranking of Ukrainian businessmen according to OpenDataBot
In addition to Akhmetov, the top five included OKKO owner Vitaliy Antonov, MHP owner Yuriy Kosyuk, DL Solution co-founder Weber Ari, and Fozzy Group co-owner Volodymyr Kostelman. Their profits range from 80 to 150 billion hryvnia.
Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko ranked eighth in the rating with business income of UAH 65.8 billion.
Among companies owned by women, Galina Gerega's business has the highest profit of 45.6 billion hryvnia, with her husband's companies bringing in another 48.5 billion.
Analysts emphasise that to be among the top 100 Ukrainian businesses, a company must have an income of over 8.99 billion hryvnia. The entry threshold for the top 1,000 is significantly lower: from UAH 1.29 billion per year. Meanwhile, 80% of businesspeople in Ukraine earn less than UAH 100 million. Only 2% of businesspeople have an annual income of over UAH 1 billion.
According to the study, 70% of businesspeople in the top 100 are registered in Ukraine, while others are owners of companies registered in Cyprus, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Switzerland.
OpenDataBot notes that in Ukraine, most businessmen are concentrated in the capital, accounting for 22% of the total number. The top three also include Dnipropetrovsk (10%) and Lviv (8%). If we add Kyiv and Odesa, half of all businessmen in the country are concentrated in these five regions.
Earlier, OpenDataBot analysts reported that last year, 780 companies began the process of bankruptcy proceedings. The turnover of the largest bankrupt companies ranges from 3.4 to 7.7 billion hryvnia.
